Job Description

This OpportunityWSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Environmental & Permitting Consultant for local offices in either Shelton, Connecticut or Orange, Connecticut. The role would provide oversight and assistance for utility-related operations and capital projects. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations including, but not limited to, the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The Lead Consultant will coordinate with local, state and federal regulators and other stakeholders such as the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP), State Historic Preservation Office, CT Siting Council, Department of Transportation (CT DOT), and others to ensure that our utility clients maintain continuous regulatory and permitting awareness and compliance. The Lead Consultant is responsible for ensuring robust and compliant spill response, waste and material management, environmental reporting), as well as continuous monitoring for environmental risk factors and coordination of necessary communications and risk mitigation response. This position will also require close attention to changing environmental regulations and changes proposed through House Bills and Public Acts.The Lead Consultant would work closely with other Project Managers, Engineers, Construction Managers, Outreach and Energy Land Management staff, in addition to design and consulting engineers, during project design process to ensure all environmental permitting and compliance requirements are met.Key Responsibilities: Support CT Siting Council applications, reporting requirements and conditions Oversee construction and ensure compliance with permitsReview Engineering drawings, reports, plans and permit applicationsCommunicate with regulatory agencies and stakeholdersPrepare Request for Proposal packages and support that processProvide written comments regarding regulatory changesSPCC SupportRCRA Hazardous Waste RequirementsUniversal, TSCA, Non-Hazardous and Hazardous Waste Management Disposal Support Invoicing and Proposal reviewContracts ManagementContractor management-billing and field Spill Management - on-call spill response, reporting Storm Duty Response RoleProtected Species and other wildlife management EMS/Compliance AuditsSpoils Management Program SupportConstruction Field oversight of material management and permit complianceStay engaged with the latest CTDEEP regulations (RBCRs), permit updatesQualifications and Background5-7 years of environmental compliance fieldBachelors Degree in an environmental related majorKnowledge/experience with local, state and federal permits and regulationsKnowledge/experience working with contaminated environmental media, such as soil and groundwaterConstruction and/or remediation oversight field experienceExcellent writing skillsGood understanding of regulatory affairsExperience managing environmental compliance for construction projectsFamiliarity with CTDEEP permits and RBCRsPreferred Qualification:Masters in an environmental related fieldPE, LEP, CHMM or CESQP certificationRCRA/CDOT TrainingKnowledge or experience working with protected species, wetlands, sensitive resources#LI-JA1About WSPWSP USA is the U.S. operating company of WSP, one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms.
