General Manager – Cannabis Dispensary

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Salary: $65,000–$75,000 per year, plus monthly bonus opportunity
Schedule: Full-time; open availability required

A growing cannabis retailer is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead its Jersey City dispensary. The General Manager is responsible for daily store operations, team performance, customer experience, regulatory compliance, inventory controls, cash management, and overall store profitability.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can maintain high operational standards, hold employees accountable, develop a strong team, and create a positive and professional workplace.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all daily dispensary operations
• Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and manage store employees
• Prepare effective schedules based on business needs and labor targets
• Maintain a visible leadership presence on the sales floor
• Ensure employees provide knowledgeable, friendly, and compliant customer service
• Monitor sales, transactions, average order value, customer retention, labor, and other key performance indicators
• Develop action plans to improve store performance and meet company goals
• Oversee cash counts, deposits, reconciliations, safe procedures, and other cash controls
• Maintain accurate inventory and investigate discrepancies promptly
• Ensure product intake, storage, transfers, sales, and recordkeeping comply with company procedures and NJ-CRC requirements
• Maintain the security and confidentiality of cannabis products, cash, customer information, and business records
• Conduct regular compliance, inventory, cash, safety, and operational audits
• Address employee performance or conduct concerns promptly and professionally in coordination with Human Resources
• Maintain appropriate workplace boundaries and prevent favoritism, gossip, retaliation, or unprofessional conduct
• Respond appropriately to customer complaints and store incidents
• Ensure the store is clean, organized, adequately staffed, and properly supplied
• Communicate operational concerns, incidents, staffing needs, and compliance issues to corporate management promptly
• Partner with corporate departments, vendors, security personnel, and regulators as needed
• Be available to respond to urgent store matters outside scheduled hours when necessary

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old
• At least three years of retail management experience
• General Manager or Store Manager experience strongly preferred
• Experience directly supervising, coaching, and holding employees accountable
• Strong knowledge of cash handling, inventory controls, scheduling, labor management, and retail operations
• Ability to analyze store performance and implement practical improvement plans
• Strong leadership, organization, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
• Comfortable learning and using point-of-sale, scheduling, inventory, and reporting systems
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
• Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs
• Cannabis retail experience is strongly preferred
• Must meet all NJ-CRC eligibility, training, background-check, and Cannabis Business Identification Card requirements
